Bio

Originally from Denver and most recently based on Bainbridge Island, Washington, Roger Martinez, MD, joins South Peninsula Hospital after serving as EMS and trauma medical director for communities on Alaskas North Slope. Prior to that, he helped develop a patient-centered care philosophy at Seattles first freestanding emergency department.

Roger approaches emergency medicine by considering each patients immediate medical needs within the context of the whole person. Board certified in emergency medicine as well as hospice and palliative medicine (at Bellevue Hospital/NYU and UN-Reno), he strives to understand the many factors shaping a patients experience and tailor care accordingly.

With a longstanding interest in language and anthropology, Roger has lived and studied in India and continues working toward fluency in Iñupiaq. When not caring for patients, he enjoys cycling, wildlife photography, and all manner of adrenaline-related activities. He can also be found in the kitchen creating dishes that nourish the soul, playing his musical instruments, or thinking about the theatre.
