The annual Safe and Healthy Kids Fair has been a Homer tradition for over 30 years. Typically set on a Saturday in early May, this free family-friendly event is held at the Homer High School. Meant for children of all ages, this fair focuses on safety, health, wellness, and fun!
Every year, the fair offers more than 25 booths and stations with hands-on activities and demonstrations. All attendees are invited to enter their names into a drawing for a brand new bike, with multiple sizes for differing age ranges are available to win! Kids can also bring their bikes and helmets for a free bike inspection and enjoy the bike rodeo. Helmets are required, and are available for purchase on site at a discounted rate.
Other attractions include face painting; a firetruck, ambulance, and police car; live karaoke; a teddy bear clinic; B.O.B. the Bookmobile; car seat checks; and free lunch provided by Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club.
The Safe and Healthy Kids Fair is organized by a committee representing local organizations whose missions include facilitating healthy outcomes and injury prevention for youth. Current members include South Peninsula Hospital, South Peninsula Behavioral Health Services, and the City of Homer.
