November 1, 2023We will explore the natural bounty of Alaska's wild foods. You may wonder how these foods stack up against the ones we regularly buy from the grocery store. Our featured speaker, Lindsay LeBrun, a Registered Dietitian from SPH, will enlighten you on the various health benefits of consuming wild game and fish. Discover what amazing things moose and salmon can do for your health and well-being.
After, you can enjoy a yoga class focused on embracing the slower pace of winter. We will begin by taking ample time to warm up our bodies before moving through poses with intention and breath, paying close attention to alignment and body positioning. Finally, we will slow things down and indulge in a well-deserved rest. Suitable for all ages and experience levels! Please bring a yoga mat if you have one (we will have a few extras).
Light refreshments will be served. Come for a part or stay for all.

Wellness Wednesday: Self Massage for Health & Wellness with Liv Vincent Wellness Wednesday: Self Massage for Health & Wellness with Liv Vincent
–
November 21, 2023Join South Peninsula Hospital's Health and Wellness team on Wednesday, December 13th, from 5-7 pm at Kachemak Bay College to learn about self-massage techniques to promote health and wellness! Join Massage Therapist Liv Vincent for a mini class on self-massage techniques for sinus and lymph drainage. Enjoy soup and warm bread as Liv presents how to locate the massage points necessary to easily clear your sinuses and drain lymph fluid from your head and neck. These techniques require no supplies and can be performed solo or on a partner at any age or life stage. Following the presentation, Liv will provide a teaching demonstration, and you will have the opportunity to try these techniques with the assistance of a professional before adding them to your at-home care routine!
Then, we'll move into a Yin yoga class taught by Metis. Yin yoga is a slow, low-to-the-ground practice; poses are held for a few minutes with the aid of props, allowing gravity and time to move the body deeper into the posture. This practice invites us to be still and look within, perfect for this season and time of the year.
To fully enjoy this cozy yoga class, please bring extra warm layers, socks, a yoga mat, and any yoga props you may want to use, such as a blanket or a couple of throw pillows. The class will involve long holds on the floor, so you will want to be warm and supported during these poses.
Metis is a Certified Yoga Instructor specializing in Yin and lifelong student. When she's not practicing yoga, she's painting, running her small business- Yoga for Everybody, and spending time outside. She lives in Fritz Creek with her husband Orion, an adopted bulldog, and an ancient cat.
Come for a part or stay for all! This is a FREE event, everyone is welcome!
